Recognize the Scope: An Entire City is GONE

I can't wrap my head around this. I make it a point not to watch the news anymore. I can't stand hearing about a half dozen people who got killed the day before, right before i leave for work. So when I heard (in passing) about the hurricane that was gonna hit New Orleans, I didn't really pay it no mind. Fortunately, I have Satellite TV in my office (i do the video news displays in the lobby of my job so i have to keep an eye on major news). So when I saw the footage of what happened, I nearly crapped my pants.
85% of muthaf$#@# New Orleans was underwater!?! What the f$%@?
And entire city is gone!!! Bourbon street... the French Quarter... all gone. Years of rich history, washed away in a natural disaster. Thousands of live lost... I.. can't... wrap... my.. head.. around it!!!
My family is originally from New Orleans. My mother and my sisters migrated to California in the 60's, and i'm part of the first generations of Cali folks.
My mother hasn't heard from her sister and her family. I keep trying to tell her that there won't be any news (good or bad) for a while now. But it's stil frustrating. One of the lifesavers has been the incredible CRAIGSLIST. The New Orleans site has had people posting family searches in the 'lost and found' section. So i posted our missing peoples' info on there. Mrs. Kelley also let me know that even though phones aren't work, text messaging also might be the way to go. Did I tell everyone that I love my wife?
Here's the listing for New Orleans Craigslist Disaster Lost & Found
If anyone out there knows of other resources people are using for finding misplaces family in N'Orleans, drop me a line and let me know. The more help the better. And prayers are welcomed also.
